“Without properly kept accounts it is impossible to maintain truth in its pristine purity” Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

Every business needs to keep a track of their accounts. This is a job that the majority of business owners don’t enjoy doing. It takes business owners away from what they really enjoy. Saying that, it’s essential.

It is a sought after service and if you are good with numbers then this could be for you.

I have performed bookkeeping for a couple of clients. I find it’s OK if you have total control over the accounts but if someone else is keeping records as well it can be difficult. This is a service that you will more than likely have to meet up with clients in order to obtain receipts etc.

It is possible to log all transactions in Excel. It all depends on the amount of logging you need to do as to whether you consider using bookkeeping software. Software will be quicker if you need to raise invoices and can help with speed and potentially produce less errors.

One such bookkeeping/accounting software is QuickBooks. It has a number of different versions and you need to establish what would be best for you.

In QuickBooks you can raise an invoice simply and just with the press of a button email that invoice to a client. You can customise invoices easily and add a company logo.

I have used QuickBooks for a client. I was able to work remotely with the aid of remote access tools and update her QuickBooks copy. This meant that she could also raise invoices and add customer information in when she had the time.
